Exploring Japan's Ancient Capitals: Suiran Kyoto & Shisui Nara

Deer in Nara

I had the incredible opportunity to immerse myself in the rich history and culture of Japan by staying at two stunning sister hotels: Suiran Kyoto and Shisui Nara. This unique tour package, designed to showcase the beauty of both ancient capitals, allowed me to experience the best of Kyoto and Nara over four unforgettable nights—two at each hotel.

Suiran Kyoto: A Riverside Retreat

Restaurant Kyo-Suiran

My journey began at Suiran Kyoto, a luxurious ryokan nestled along the serene Hozu River. As I stepped into the hotel, I was immediately captivated by its harmonious blend of traditional Japanese design and modern amenities. The warm wooden interiors, sliding shoji screens, and meticulously arranged gardens set the perfect backdrop for relaxation.

During my stay, I enjoyed breathtaking views of the river and surrounding mountains, especially during sunrise when the landscape was bathed in soft golden light. The on-site dining experience was nothing short of extraordinary, with seasonal kaiseki meals that celebrated local flavors and artistic presentation. Each dish told a story, reflecting the rich culinary heritage of Kyoto.

One of my highlights was the opportunity to explore nearby attractions, such as the iconic Arashiyama Bamboo Grove and the historic temples that define Kyoto's charm. Suiran provided the ideal base for these adventures, offering a perfect blend of comfort and convenience.

Shisui Nara: A Tranquil Escape

After two magical nights at Suiran, I made my way to Shisui Nara, where tranquility reigns supreme. Set against the backdrop of Nara’s lush landscapes, this ryokan is a true oasis of peace. The design of Shisui pays homage to Nara's storied past, featuring elements that reflect the region's cultural heritage.

The moment I entered my room, I was enveloped in a sense of calm. The minimalist decor and stunning views of nature invited relaxation. I spent my days exploring Nara's historical treasures, including the majestic Todai-ji Temple and the friendly deer of Nara Park. Each outing was enhanced by the knowledge that I would return to the serene embrace of Shisui.

The culinary experience here was equally impressive, with dishes highlighting local ingredients and flavors. Dining while overlooking the tranquil garden was a highlight, allowing me to savor the moment in a truly beautiful setting.
